An Octopus and a Mouse

I decided that because I don’t really have time to do oil painting that I would try and squeeze in some short, small and simple illustrations. I named this part one in the hopes that others will follow on other days. I put them in a black border because I would probably put them with a black mat.

They are both 5×7.

Owl Genie Bookmark

I illustrated this book mark a month or two ago and finally got around to printing it. I generally have lots of books in process at a time, so I wanted a lot of bookmarks for them, without spending a lot of money. I also have been trying to do some short fun projects to improve my digital illustration. The owl genie was originally supposed to be a set of two or three types of owls, but because I’m so busy, that will have to come later. I have also been thinking about doing some bug or fish bookmarks.

Photographs from the NC Botanical Gardens

I love my macro lens. The last photo is my favorite. The botanical gardens had some plants with great personalities.

Another Day at the Duke Gardens

Bird from the Audobon Zoo

I saw this bird at the Audobon Zoo over a year ago. I have no idea what kind of bird it is, but it is a cute one. I started this a long time ago and just put some finishing touches on it. I think the colors in the photo are a little darker than real life, but it’s not too far off. [Read more →]

Summer Tomatoes

I painted these in July after buying some heirloom tomatoes and fresh basil from the Durham Farmer’s Market. I don’t know how I managed to forget to post them for so long, but January seems like a great time to start wishing for fresh picked tomatoes again, so I thought I would post them now.

7" x 5" | Pencil on Paper

I only had two goals yesterday. First was to take some photos of butterflies and second was to do some pencil drawing; both were completed.

New Oil Painting: Would you like a glass of wine?

Would you like a glass of wine? | 12" x 12" | Oil on Wrapped Canvas

I finished this painting last night. It is 12″ by 12″ and I started it a while ago, but I decided to withhold posting anything until completion. I’m quite happy with how this turned out. I have somehow developed a strong fondness for glass; especially clear glass. This was really fun because of all the reflections of the orange label through both glasses. You can see its color from the top of the wine glasses to the bottom.

Here are the stages of the painting. [Read more →]
