About Alicia
Thank you for visiting my blog. If you are one of my current readers, thank you for letting me share with you. If you have just bumped into this site, please feel welcome to rummage around and find out if anything appeals to you.
When I first started this blog, I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with it, I just wanted a place to share. I moved from my hometown of St. Paul Minnesota to Durham North Carolina in August of 2008 and blogging has given me a way to keep in touch with family and friends. As it got started I posted a lot of random things, but as time went on, I found I most liked to share posts about my art and my photography which inspires a lot of my paintings. This blog is now dedicated to my artwork and those things that inspire me plus other creative outlets like cooking, and the occasional random post.
I read many blogs by other artists who share their work and talk about their process and I really appreciate them for it. My love of art started in first grade and my medium was colored pencils. Since then I’ve taken many classes in various mediums from painting and drawing to pottery, metal smithing jewelry, cartooning and others. I discovered Oil around January of 2008 and it has been my focus ever since. While I have had many short term relationships with other mediums because I don’t have time for everything…my connection with oil may end up being my match for the long haul. Not to say that I don’t post on the occasional watercolor or drawing, I do. Plus, I’ve been itching to try Gouache too.
Professionally I work as a graphic designer and website developer through my company Graphic Karma Inc. I love my work, and in particular I love assisting businesses in creating their brand identity by illustrating a logo and designing matching business cards and other materials as needed. In my ideal world, I would spend half of my time doing graphic design, half of my time painting and all my free time traveling, walking in the woods, photographing, reading and cooking.
